Where Do We Go From Here?

Junior Extension Course (JXC) and Young Musician Course (YMC) Graduates

Congratulations on completing the Junior Extension Course or the Young Musicians Course! Completing these classes in the Yamaha curriculum is an achievement to be proud of. Your child has an unparalleled foundation and training that will serve them well in future music study and any other educational pursuit.  The next step in the curriculum is to choose from one of two Yamaha courses developed specifically for the JXC / YMC graduate. Both classes have the comprehensive musical content that you‘ve come to expect from Yamaha.

Determining the best fit for your child and family

JNC:  If you would like to continue in the Yamaha class and prefer to have one lesson per week (or have the option to add a private lesson), and are able to commit to a practice routine of 45 min each day, then JNC is a good choice.

JAC: If you would like to continue in an accelerated program and add the private lesson for a total of 2 lessons per week (in consultation with teacher), and are able to commit to a practice routine of 60 min each day, then JAC is a good choice.

Keep in mind that there is no ‘best’ class. It depends upon your personal situation - each class offers its own rewards.

FAQ

Can we move forward with private lessons only?  Yes, but we strongly recommend one of the two options for group class and based on private lesson availability. The group class is an excellent opportunity to continue your child’s comprehensive training. If you do elect to take private lessons study only at Yamaha Music School, you can study with a teacher who fully understands your child’s training, and you can use the Yamaha Pianoforte method books not offered anywhere else.

What if we are in the JNC program, but want to add a private lesson later? This is fine –you are welcome to add private lessons at any time upon teachers' availability.
